Housing

At Handcrafted, our priority is to provide safe and supportive housing to individuals with multiple, complex needs and at risk of homelessness.

We strive to provide more than just a house though; our team works alongside people to help them create a safe, welcoming space they can truly call home.

We offer holistic support that empowers our residents and fosters their growth, well-being, and independence. To do this, a comprehensive needs and risk assessment is conducted prior to offering our services so that we can then tailor our support to the unique needs of the individual. This is followed by regularly updating residents’ support plans.

This person-centred approach ensures that each resident’s unique needs, preferences, and aspirations are at the forefront of their housing and support journey. We believe in recognising and respecting the inherent dignity of every person, tailoring our services to create a supportive environment that truly values and celebrates individuality.

Our residents may have experienced significant adversity. We aim to create a safe, empathetic, and non-judgmental space that acknowledges and responds to trauma, fosters healing and resilience through offering stable housing.

Each one of our houses is linked and in close proximity to one of our hubs which, should a resident wish, provides opportunities for socialising, access to further support, advice and guidance and the ability to play an active part in the local community. Residents also benefit from our training opportunities, where they can learn to create furniture and decorations for themselves and their homes.

We passionately believe every individual possesses strengths, talents, and capabilities. We strive to empower residents to harness their potential and build a foundation for personal growth and self-reliance.

Testimonials

I have referred a number of offenders to Handcrafted.  The offenders can attend the project several times per week if they wish to, if not daily. This means that they have some where to go and something constructive to do with their time. They can learn new skills or continue to develop skills they already have. They are given the opportunity to try projects they would probably never have considered themselves able to do.

They all take great pride in the items they produce and some have expressed interest in forming their own small businesses on the back of the skills they have learned.

Most of my offenders have then begun to work on their own projects outside of Handcrafted, for example, one produced a bench for a new nature reserve. The offender stated that he feels he has left a legacy for other people to benefit from. Again, this gives them something constructive to do with their time, gives them a sense of pride and self worth. All of this is extremely positive for the offender and helps to deter from further offending.
